IF UNIVERSE IS BALANCED ON A KNIFE-EDGE THAT DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS A DESIGNER

People often quote physicist P. C. W. Davies saying the universe is “balanced on a knife-edge,” as if that proves it must be designed. But that’s not actually what it means. All it really highlights is how sensitive the universe is to certain physical constants. Change them slightly, and stars, chemistry, and life might not exist. That’s interesting—but it doesn’t point to a single explanation.

It could still be completely blind and unguided.

And who says a creator has to be something like a big person? It could be smart but not conscious.

Maybe we’re just in the one kind of universe where observers can exist (we wouldn’t be here to notice otherwise). Maybe there are countless universes and this is one where the numbers happened to work out. Or maybe those constants aren’t random at all—we just don’t yet understand the deeper laws behind them.

“Fine-tuned” doesn’t automatically mean “designed.” It just means: this is a puzzle we don’t fully understand yet. And that’s where the real conversation begins.

Plus there is another fine-tuning nobody mentions. It is that the universe looks set up to do without a God explanation.

Those who believe in God and those who do not, often agree that the universe had no beginning in the sense that there was always something there. Even the Bible does not rule out there always being something. It has no word for making things out of nothing. It just speaks of God making the heavens and the earth.

The doctrine of creation out of nothing is about protecting what persons want to believe about God’s power and nothing else. The doctrine is nothing special. In other words, it is needed to give us a God of unimaginable power who can make things pop into existence. A God who does not have responsibility for every single thing is not a God for then there is something he cannot do anything about and he is not completely his own boss. So he is not literally almighty and he must fight if he wants more power. Creation as a theory is not about explaining anything for it is not science. It is a mere theological construct. Logic does not suggest creation. Creation out of nothing is an excuse and is about giving us a God and nothing else.
