God is not truly personal to us which allows men to manipulate us

The book Dune has this line, “Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them”.

The machine need not be real - thinking a machine is out there is as bad.

While God is framed in personal terms, a God who is not a body but something that sounds suspiciously like nothing at all but a language game, is as good as a machine.

It is likely that the person bringing you to God is treating him as a machine.  And that you are doing the same thing.  Either way, manipulation and error creep in.

As God is seen as pure wisdom and knows all, we are expected to hand all our thinking over to him. But, “Christians do think. That is why we have theologians.” Yes but they think that is by God’s permission and that the thinking must fit what he would tell us to think. No theologian claims to be infallible about what God wants and thinks. But that does not mean the principle that what God thinks alone matters is false. They are expected to affirm the principle and keep trying.

There is a tension in how religion says God commands us to be truly moral.  It adds that if we want to obey him we will be moral so obedience rather than morality matters. Morality and obedience are not the same thing. The right thing is the right thing even if nobody commands it. Morality must override obedience. That is another clue that God is not like a person at all but treated as a prop and a machine.
