The Turin Shroud is the most famous relic in the world. Millions believe that it is the burial cloth of Jesus Christ bearing his crucified and bloodied image. The cloth is kept at Turin in Italy. The cloth is an enigma. Many say it is a miracle.
Some say that it may be the only known instance of the power of thoughtography - the claimed power of Ted Serios that there is power to project images from the mind onto some surface such as film or whatever. If so then it is paranormal not miracle. Jesus having an image produced that way would prove he could have been using psychic ability to pretend to be a real miracle worker.
The Newby image like the Turin Shroud invites disagreement among researchers. There are pro-camps and anti-camps and undecided-camps. Just because the latter image is supposedly of Jesus or is on linen does not make it better or more important scientifically than the Newby spectre photograph. Both images are in fact spectral and the white sheet the Newby entity is wearing is a shroud too though otherwise looking like a monk. Nobody has replicated the photograph. Something being unique and impossible to copy exactly does not mean it is genuine or from direct divine intervention. Nobody is really able to make an exact copy of the Mona Lisa either. A paint crack or shade is always going to differ even if not to the naked eye. Both raise lots of suspicions and there are errors in both images. [The Newby image is 9 ft tall and like Turin man is too elongated]. That much is known. In fact there is less reason to doubt the Newby image...
We can't speak to the person who first encountered the Turin shroud. There is no reason to question Reverend Kenneth F Lord who took the infamous snap away back in the 1960s. There is no tradition of a ghostly monk so the nature of the image is intriguing. A faker would not be so random.
The evil looking Newby image seems to rise from a black cloud and Jesus was depicted as standing on clouds. Why can't Jesus be depicted as a corpse standing on a cloud in black with a white shroud on the face? The image is depicted as if it is of an injured man for the shoulder is big on one side and too small on the other - from carrying a cross?
If it is a far-fetched but natural thing it reminds us that reading a real ghost or paranormal into it is lazy. Nature can be astonishing.
