Faith and philosophy may treat reason as reliable and as a gift from
God.
But reason is not pure thinking. Observation plays a role. God
could wreck our reasoning.
If we see a stone that seems impossible for
God to lift and he lifts it....
We see a circle that looks square from
another angle so it seems to be a square circle...
The Paradox: When we
ask God to make a "square circle," we are using a self-contradictory string of
human words. God can create a higher-dimensional reality where the essences of
what we call "squareness" and "circularity" coexist perfectly. To us, looking
from a lower dimension, this reality would appear completely untestable and
paradoxical.
That is real change.
There is that but he can
certainly make a reality where they seem to without our logical faculties
being altered in themselves. The problem is the information the faculties get.
He could suspend or alter our faculty so it reads 1 and 1 as adding up to
2.5. He suspend or corrupt the logic required to test it.
If logic is
a rule God invented for our universe then God can break or alter this rule.
That makes logic relative or mere convention. Most believers at least
outwardly oppose that. But as superstition is so rife among them one wonders
if they are sincere.
